Our location
Drosato is a small semi-mountainous village of Dorida in the Regional Unit of Fokida, at an altitude of 450 meters. It is located towards the southwestern borders of the prefecture with the prefecture of Aitoloakarnania and east of the river Mornos. It is built on a hillside with panoramic views of the plain of Efpalio, south the Corinthian Gulf, southwest the bridge Rio – Antirio and in the background the mountains of Peloponnese.
It is 7 km away. NW. from Efpalio, the seat of the Municipal Unit and 16 km. W.-NW. from Nafpaktos. Its name is due to the cool climate and greenery that surrounds the area. The original location of the village was at the location "Pera Chorio" under the hill Aetofolia (581 meters) and from there moved its inhabitants in the 1860s, who today are mainly engaged in livestock farming.
Drosato as attractions boasts the holy church of Luke the Evangelist, where every year there is a festival in honor of the Saint and the majestic church of Agios Georgios. At the end of August, the "bean soup festival" takes place. In the southwest of the village and near the provincial road Terpsithea – Spartia at the location "Karabasi", there are ruins of houses and a tower from an old Turkish settlement. At the location "Barkorema" there are stone wells, a fountain and the remains of a temple dedicated to Prophet Elias.
The old name, from the time of the Turkish occupation, was Kardara and with this name it was mentioned in 1835 to be annexed to the then municipality of Oineonos in the prefecture of Fokida and Lokris. It was renamed to Drosato in 1960. According to the Kallikratis program, together with the settlement of Pefkaki (150 inhabitants) they constitute the Local Community of Drosato, which with a total population of 199 inhabitants belongs to the Municipal Unit of Efpalio of the Municipality of Doris and according to the 2011 census has a population of 49 inhabitants.
